2019 Reflection & Review

As we wind up 2019 (can you believe it?!) we thought that now would be a good time to reflect on what was an amazing whirlwind of a year and share some highlights from our pasture, as well as from the world of social media and digital marketing.

2019 was a year of growth and change in so many ways, with the advent of social selling, as more platforms offered e-commerce capabilities to their audiences; social listening, as more in-depth insights and data analytics were made available to us as marketers; influencer marketing, as the world started to look to local and international celebrities for their product and service endorsements; and ephemeral content, as we saw the meteoric rise of short-lived stories on almost every social platform.

2019 was also the year the world held some of its most powerful people and corporations to account as new rules and regulations were debated and legislated to make sure those governing our social platforms are doing so with respect and fair governance, for the benefit of all. We’ve seen major shifts in the way people engaged online this year, becoming more focused on creating community and sharing local content, and been a part of global conversations on topics like data ethics and privacy.

A little closer to home, we kicked off the year at The Social Lamb by adding a few brand-new Lambs to our flock, which meant we were ready to branch out to distant shores and jet off to open our first international office in Oxfordshire in the UK. Shortly thereafter, we realised that we had to make space for our expanding flock and we broke down the wall of the office next to us to create a new, bigger space where our collective creativity could truly come to life!

We spent Mandela Day giving back to our community with our friends at a local charity called The Seed Fund who are doing amazing work in our local communities in Durban and from there, committed to spending one day each month volunteering with this special group of people.

We welcomed our first ‘llama in training’ (also known as an intern) Kate, said goodbye to some of our dearest Lambs and welcomed new ones into our flock as our little team continues to expand and grow.

During the latter part of the year, we held our very first Social Media Masterclass where we got to empower small businesses and business people to set up and manage their very own social media accounts, and we look forward to more Masterclasses coming soon!

All in all, what a wonderful year of fun, new friendships and creation – and we know that 2020 is going to be EVEN better!

From all of us here at The Social Lamb, we wish you a beautiful Festive Season with your loved ones and we’ll see you in the New Year!
